Preparation
- Preheat a conventional oven to 180 °C.
- Butter an ovenproof dish lightly.

Prepare apples
- Place the sliced apples evenly in the prepared dish.
- Drizzle with lemon juice, add the water and sprinkle cinnamon to taste. Mix so apples don't brown.

Make topping
- Combine butter, brown sugar, oats, flour, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg in a bowl.
- Crumble with your fingers or two forks until you have an even, crumbly mixture.

Bake
- Cover the apples with the topping. Optionally sprinkle a few extra oats on top.
- Bake 30–45 minutes until apples are soft and topping is crisp.

- Let cool slightly and serve warm.
- Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
