  • 150 gSugar
  • 60 mlWater
  • 340 gChocolate
  • 1 tspVanilla
  • 90 gFlour
  • 0.25 tspBaking soda
  • 0.25 tspSalt
  • 2 pcsEgg
  • 60 gNut

    Prepare

    • Let the eggs and butter sit at room temperature for 30 minutes.
    • Preheat the oven to 165 °C (325 °F).
    • Grease a 23 x 23 cm (9-inch) square baking pan or line it with parchment paper.

    Sift dry ingredients

    • Sift together the flour, baking soda and salt in a small bowl and set aside.

    Make chocolate mixture

    • Combine butter, sugar and water in a small saucepan. Bring just to a boil, then remove from heat.
    • Add half of the chocolate chips (about 170 g) and the vanilla and stir until smooth and glossy.

    Finish batter

    • Transfer the chocolate mixture to a large bowl.
    • Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
    • Gradually blend in the flour mixture until combined.
    • Stir in the remaining chocolate chips (about 170 g) and chopped nuts if using.

    Bake

    • Spread the batter into the prepared pan.
    • Bake at 165 °C (325 °F) for 30–35 minutes. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out with a few moist crumbs.
    • Cool completely before cutting into 16 squares (about 2¼"/5.7 cm each).
