Ingredients

  • 4 pcsEgg
  • 200 gSugar
  • 200 gWheat flour
  • 200 gButter
  • 1 tspVanilla extract
  • 1 tspCinnamon
  • 3 pcsApple
  • 1 gSalt
  • 10 gPowdered sugar
  • 30 gAlmond

Instructions

    Prepare

    • Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
    • Grease a cake pan (22–24 cm) and line the bottom with baking paper.

    Beat eggs and sugar

    • Crack the eggs into a large bowl and beat with the sugar for about 5–7 minutes until the mixture is pale and fluffy.

    Fold in flour and butter

    • Sift the self-raising flour over the egg mixture and gently fold it in to preserve air.
    • Fold in the melted, slightly cooled butter until combined.

    Add spices and apples

    • Add cinnamon, vanilla extract and a pinch of salt and mix briefly.
    • Peel, core and dice the apples and gently fold them into the batter so they are evenly distributed.

    Bake and finish

    • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
    • Optionally place apple slices on top and press lightly. Sprinkle with almond flakes if desired.
    • Bake for 45–50 minutes until a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean.
    • Allow to cool briefly in the pan, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
    • Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
