Preparation
- Preheat oven to 175 °C. Lightly grease a 23 x 33 cm baking dish.
- Place half of the cubed bread in the bottom of the dish. Sprinkle half the ham, then half the cheese; repeat with remaining bread, ham and cheese.
- In a large bowl beat together eggs, milk, salt, hot sauce (to taste) and chopped green onions. Pour the egg mixture over the layers in the dish.
- Set the baking dish on a rimmed baking sheet. Pour hot water into the baking sheet (bain-marie) until it reaches about halfway up the sides of the dish. Bake about 60 minutes or until the eggs are set and the top is golden.
- Remove from oven, let cool briefly, cut into portions and serve.
