Ingredients

  • 8 pcsBratwurst
  • 350 gTomato sauce
  • 1200 gButter bean
  • 15 gTreacle
  • 1 tspMustard
  • 1 tbspOil

    Preparation

    • Prepare all ingredients. If using canned butter beans, drain and rinse them.
    • Optional: have 1 tbsp cooking oil ready for frying.

    Brown the sausages

    • Heat a large heavy-based casserole over medium-high heat.
    • Add the oil (1 tbsp) and the 8 sausages and brown all over for about 8–10 minutes, turning occasionally.

    Finish sauce and simmer

    • Stir the jar of tomato sauce into the browned sausages.
    • Add the drained butter beans, 1 tbsp black treacle (or 1 tbsp brown sugar) and 1 tsp English mustard, stirring well.
    • Bring to a simmer, cover and cook on low heat for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

    Serve

    • Serve hot with crusty bread or rice.
    • Season with freshly ground pepper to taste.
