Prepare
- Whisk eggs and milk in a shallow bowl, season with a pinch of salt and some pepper.
- Slice or soften butter and weigh out ingredients.

Assemble sandwich
- Spread butter on the first slice of bread and top with ham and cooked chicken.
- Butter the middle slice on both sides, place on the meat and top with Emmental cheese.
- Butter the third slice and place, butter side down, over the cheese.
- Trim crusts, cut the sandwich in half lengthwise and secure with toothpicks if needed.

Batter and fry
- Dip the assembled sandwich briefly into the egg-milk batter so all cut edges are lightly coated.
- Heat butter in a large pan over medium heat and fry the sandwich on all sides until golden and the cheese has melted (about 2–4 minutes per side).
- Remove toothpicks before serving.

- Serve the sandwich hot with lingonberry, strawberry or cranberry jam.
- Optionally halve and plate with a spoonful of jam on the side.
