Ingredients

  • 100 gButter
  • 360 gWhite bread
  • 200 gHam
  • 200 gChicken breast
  • 200 gEmmental cheese
  • 4 pcsEgg
  • 100 mlMilk
  • 80 gJam

    Prepare

    • Whisk eggs and milk in a shallow bowl, season with a pinch of salt and some pepper.
    • Slice or soften butter and weigh out ingredients.

    Assemble sandwich

    • Spread butter on the first slice of bread and top with ham and cooked chicken.
    • Butter the middle slice on both sides, place on the meat and top with Emmental cheese.
    • Butter the third slice and place, butter side down, over the cheese.
    • Trim crusts, cut the sandwich in half lengthwise and secure with toothpicks if needed.

    Batter and fry

    • Dip the assembled sandwich briefly into the egg-milk batter so all cut edges are lightly coated.
    • Heat butter in a large pan over medium heat and fry the sandwich on all sides until golden and the cheese has melted (about 2–4 minutes per side).
    • Remove toothpicks before serving.

    Serve

    • Serve the sandwich hot with lingonberry, strawberry or cranberry jam.
    • Optionally halve and plate with a spoonful of jam on the side.
