  • 200 gOnion
  • 50 gButter
  • 250 mlWater
  • 6 gSalt
  • 0.5 tspPepper
  • 15 mlVinegar

    Preparation

    • Peel the potatoes if necessary and halve large ones so pieces are uniform. Peel and slice the onions into rings.
    • Heat 50 g butter in a large pot. Place a thin layer of potatoes on the bottom, add some onions, salt and pepper. Repeat layers until all ingredients are in the pot.
    • Add about 250 ml water so the potatoes are not completely covered. Optionally add 1 tbsp (15 ml) vinegar.
    • Cover tightly and simmer over medium-low heat for about 60 minutes until potatoes are tender. Check occasionally and add a little water if needed.
    • Shortly before finishing, remove the lid and let some liquid evaporate so the potatoes become lightly browned and glossy from the butter. Taste and adjust seasoning.
