Ingredients

  • 340 gMozzarella
  • 3 tbspOlive oil
  • 2 pcsGarlic
  • 800 gTomatoes
  • 1 tspOregano
  • 450 gPizza dough
  • 3 tbspPecorino

    Preheat oven and prepare dough

    • Preheat the oven to 250 °C (480 °F equivalent set).
    • Stretch the pizza dough (450 g) onto a greased baking sheet to about 3 cm thickness.
    • Let the dough rest while you prepare the sauce.

    Make the tomato sauce

    • Heat a saucepan over medium heat, add the olive oil (3 tbsp) and crushed garlic (2 cloves).
    • Sauté until the garlic is just golden (do not burn).
    • Add the crushed tomatoes (800 g) and dried oregano (1 tsp).
    • Simmer until the sauce thickens, about 15–20 minutes.
    • Cool the sauce to room temperature.

    Top and bake

    • Top the dough with sliced mozzarella (340 g).
    • Add any optional toppings such as sausage or pepperoni if desired.
    • Spread the cooled tomato sauce over the toppings.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for about 15–20 minutes until crust is golden and cheese melted.

    Finish

    • Remove the pizza from the oven and sprinkle with grated Pecorino Romano (3 tbsp).
    • Let cool briefly and serve at room temperature or reheat briefly under the broiler.
