Cook the vegetables
- Roughly chop the onion, turnip, peeled potato, carrot and celery.
- Put the vegetables into a pot with 1420 ml of water and bring to a boil.
- Simmer over medium heat for 20–30 minutes until the vegetables are tender.

- Toast one slice of bread and spread with butter.
- Place the bread in a bowl and pour the hot soup over it so the bread soaks slightly. Serve immediately.
