  • 454 gBratwurst
  • 227 gBacon
  • 946 mlWater
  • 1714 mlChicken broth
  • 700 gPotato
  • 2 pcsGarlic clove
  • 150 gOnion
  • 140 gKale
  • 240 mlCream
  • 2 gSalt
  • 1 gPepper

    Brown the sausage

    • In a skillet over medium-high heat, brown the spicy Italian sausage (removed from casings), breaking it into small pieces with a spoon.
    • Drain on paper towels and set aside.

    Cook the bacon

    • In the same or another skillet, cook the smoked bacon over medium heat until crisp.
    • Drain on paper towels and set aside.

    Simmer broth and vegetables

    • Combine water and chicken broth in a large pot and bring to a boil.
    • Add cubed potatoes, chopped onion and crushed garlic.
    • Simmer until the potatoes are tender, about 12–15 minutes.

    Add meats

    • Add the cooked sausage and bacon to the pot.
    • Simmer together for 10 minutes to blend flavors.
  5. 5

    Finish with greens and cream

    • Stir in the chopped kale (or Swiss chard) and the heavy cream.
    • Season with salt and pepper; heat through without boiling. Serve hot.
