  • 750 gOnion
  • 240 mlMilk
  • 3 pcsEgg
  • 5 gSalt
  • 240 gPancake mix
  • 50 mlVegetable oil
  • 10 gParsley

    Preparation

    • Peel onions and cut into about 1 cm thick slices, then separate into rings.
    • Whisk milk, eggs and salt in a mixing bowl.
    • Soak the onion rings in the milk-egg mixture for 30 minutes.

    Breading and frying

    • Place pancake mix in a shallow bowl.
    • Remove onion rings from the milk mixture and coat in the pancake mix.
    • Heat oil to about 190 °C in a pot or deep fryer.
    • Deep-fry the rings in batches until golden brown (about 2–4 minutes per batch).
    • Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

    Optional: Onion loaf (bake)

    • Pack fried onion rings loosely, without pressing, into a loaf pan (approx. 20 x 10 cm).
    • Bake in a preheated oven at 200 °C for 10–15 minutes.
    • Turn onto a serving plate and garnish with parsley.

    Serving

    • Serve onion rings hot as a snack or with dips.
    • If baked as a loaf, slice and serve garnished with parsley.
